I know that you want to raise the most decent, loving, kindhearted human you can. I also know that you want her to be independent, confident, and courageous. Cultivating all those positive character traits will require you to be present. Don’t leave it up to chance.

Every Mama I’ve ever met has said this to me. Unfortunately, we’ve created a culture where mothers are expected to be all things to all people and my least favorite, to have ourselves all together, doing it all. This expectation is for the birds. Mothering in and of itself is hard (you are allowed to say that and feel that). Add to that, a career, any personal development, squeezing in girl-time and gym time, being a wife, passion projects, community service…it can surely deplete you. I want to get in bed just thinking about all of that.
